    Yasmen MehtaYASMEN SORAB MEHTA

I bring several types of experience to my teaching. I have been a yoga practitioner since the age of six. While in high school, I studied Yoga under Rati Unwalla in Bombay, India, and later on at the Iyengar Institute in Pune, India, under B.K.S. Iyengar. I have taught extensively in the US and Australia.

My Pilates training began in Australia in 1987, working at the first Pilates studio in Sydney, Australia; in 1998, I received additional certification from Master Trainer Kim Holms of Symmetry (Body Mind Institute).

I teach spin, cardiofit, pilates and yoga at the San Francisco Police Academy, Olympic Club, World Gym and Sports Basement.

Yasmen MehtaI have been a professional modern dance choreographer and dancer, performing nationally and internationally for fifteen years, with the California Contemporary Dancers. I retired from the company in 2004.

I currently train in short track speedskating under 2000 US Olympic Coach Susan Ellis
    - a far cry from dancing but equally challenging! You can read more about this in the San Francisco Chronicle. Every summer I ride my bike 550 miles to L.A. to raise awareness and help people with HIV, through the San Francisco Aids Foundation.

My specialty is injury prevention and recovery for athletes. Sometimes the amount of stress put on day after day on a body can do a lot of damage. Athletes need to know how to recover fast and stay flexible, so the muscles can generate more power and endurance and be used to 100% of their capacity.

Yasmen MehtaMy client list is long and varied. It includes athletes from many different sports. I work with clients who have suffered injuries such as whiplash from car accidents and sports related stress, especially to the back. Then there are the clients who just love keeping healthy and fit.

In August 2004, I published a handbook called "Speedskaters Guide to Flexibility" which can be purchased on CD from www.ellismethod.net/flexibility.html
This book is good for any athlete, especially those whose sport demands a lot of lower body work.
